can I pick your brains. I dont need look-ups, but Im in a confused muddle with David Jenkins born 1886 (according to census) in Pontypridd. My brain is going round in circles because Ive spent too long looking at him on the tree, just getting nowhere. I have him for definite in 1911 in a tent in Abersychan, South Wales with Genty Jenkins (common law wife, UNFORTUNATELY no marriage cert exists) and baby Celia. Genty was my great granny, so this is definitely him and I think his death was one registered in 1913. I think I have him in 1901 with parents John n Eliza but not sure as many David Jenkins are about - his two step-siblings were born in Australia, I think Eliza was a stepmother. I cant find this record again but I did find it once, hence having the info. I cant find any other record of that family, if its even the right David. Hes NOT the son of Griffith and Janet Jenkins, I've ruled that out. If anyone has any more ideas I'd be grateful to hear them. In 1911 he was a gypsy hawker but the 1901 lot weren't gypsies - altho its possible he took to the life when he met Genty. Their daughter Celia vanished off the face of the earth after Davids death, my grandmother (Gentys daughter) has no knowledge of her. *Ive found a poss marriage for Celia and ordered the cert but it hasnt arrived yet. Just trying to sort David's tangle out. |

And then there is this? Do you know when 'Genty' died and what her birth name was? |

Sorry I had to leave laptop for a bit, yes I think this is mine but if the death seems too old then maybe not? Oh this might mean Ive taklen a completely wrong turn. Her name was Genty but she hated it and called herself a range of names: Genteel, Jentina, etc etc. Also, Jenkins cottages sounds familiar as I have other members of the family who lived at Jenkins Row(unsure if its the same.) Genty took up with Percy Price and had his children from 1919, before dying in 1966 as Gentila Edwards. Thankyou so much for looking. PS, her birth name was Gentila Roberts but she had no birth cert as she was born in a wagon in Kent or Sussex. OH, Ive just remembered, the 1911 one with David has to be mine - she had her sister Celia and brother in law there with her in a caravan. That death you found for David is different to the one I have, I never saw yours on Ancestry so thankyou. Mine: David J Jenkins |

I know that you are not after look-ups, but I think you said that you could not trace the 1901 census entry you had found once. Could it be this one? I looked from 1881 to 1891 in Wales, parents John and El*z*, but only came up with 3 in 1901. Only one of those was Eliza instead of Elizabeth, and it looks as if it might be the one you had found, since it mentions Pontypridd: |

Thankyou Ivy, thats the one! Very evasive family they were. Yes I think she was on her 2nd marriage as her kids had the surname Thomas and were born in Oz. |
