Hi
does any one know if I can search the census by address please on Ancestry?

I've found a common prayer book in my mother in laws things and it has an address in it dated 1894. It's a present from a Grandmother to her Grandson.

I've been trying to search by surname (Carter) but no luck so far.

I've looked on Jonesey's tips but can't see anything on there. Tried help on Ancestry but can't find any thing on there. I thought I saw something about doing an address search on this site once?

If any one can help I'd be very grateful

I don't think you can on Ancestry. If you post the address I'll have a look on FMP for you

Sorry all,

I didn't see the post by Maryanna.

Should I just remove this post?

Hi TootyFruity,

Thank you. I'm feeling a tad foolish as I didn't see Maryanna's post which is asking for the same thing.

On the the front inside cover it says

? Carter Lisbon Terrace,Bath.

It's dated Jan 11th 1894. I think the Grandmothers name says Penny Carter. I can't decipher the initial of the Grandson it may be an S

Thank you

Not to worry,

It's a fantastic thing to have. I have a child's bible for my great uncle.

I agree it is a lovely thing.

I'm just wondering who the Carters were. Maybe relations of my in laws ?

Found Lisbon Terrace 1901 with no problem - but no Carters. It appears to be a mixture of Lisbon Terrace with Prospect Buildings and St MAry's Buildings on the listing

1891 more of a problem as it appears not to be on the index. (There is a Lisbon Place same parish)
By looking at the next door streets in 1901, I trawled along until coming across 4 addresses for Lisbon Terrace in between Paradise Street and St Marys Buildings

There are these Carter's
1891 census transcription details for: 2, Lisbon Terrace, South Hayes, Bath

Hi Stuart,

Thank you so much for looking for me. Something to go on

I think that the Carter's in the prayer book will link into my tree at some point. I have a Carter family in 1911 marrying into my husbands family and I think they may have traveled about a bit before settling in Peckham London.

So thanks again

Hi

I've had a look at the various Census for the above. They look to well off to be part of my husbands family. So I'm asking myself why did my mother in law have this little book?

Unless in 1894 Grandson Carter was living in Lisbon Terrace and then moved on?

As usual more questions than answers!

Thanks for all your help

Sarah is a Lodging House Keeper then and a Publican before. Her husband is still alive in 1851 and is a 56 year old farmer. They are at 2 Lisbon Terrace! In 1841 he is a Publican. So I wouldn't say well off, although some of the neighbours looked as though they might be!

Hi Stuart,

I had a look at my tree and the Carter's I have in London originate from Norfolk so I think this rules out Sarah, The name of the Grandma says Penny I think, but I obviously don't know where she came from or her birth date. So far today I have had no luck at all in finding a Mrs Penelope Carter in the Bath area. I'll probably just keep plodding on with it when I get the chance.

All the best Blue
