How wide a family generation can you find?

What are the rules here? Is it limited to grandchildren? If not then surely the chances of a wider range increase if you consider great grand children and so on. |

My grandfather was born in 1872. He had 10 children from 2 marriages, the youngest (my mother) being born in 1923. |
