How do I transfer my thread on "naturalization" to the find Ancestors board ; I put it on this site as a general question + an attempt to follow the rule about only 1 thread per person but it now contains lots of information about my great grandfather and tips which would be useful for others seeking foreign born ancestors who only use find Ancestor board .

Only GR can transfer a thread - you could ask Phil Moir (if you can find him!) or send a message to support.

As both boards have ended up containing look up threads, I wouldn't worry about it. ;-)

Added - if you felt like it, you could start a thread on here as 'Tips' thread. That way both you and other helpers can direct new enquirers to it.

Thanks Detective ; not sure how a tips thread on here would help redirect people from find ancestor page to this page tho if they don't tend to look on here ...i only used the find ancestor pagfe when I started

Lets assume that someone else wanted help on Naturalisation.

If you were to spot it, you could say

" See my thread on Gene Tips" and give the thread address.
We all tend to add certain threads to our 'watched' threads so that we can refer to them or direct someone else there.

Look to the top of the screen. You'll see a GR logo followed by wwwgenesreunited.co.uk/boards etc etc. That is the thread address.

Put your curser in the white section after the numbers and click. That will highlight it (turn it another colour).
Without moving the curser, right click and select 'copy'.
Go to where you want to paste, left click to place the curser and right click again and select 'paste'.

To copy and paste text, place the curser at one edge top right, top left or bottom right/left..its up to you.
Hold the left button down and drag to highlight the selected text - either downwards or diagonally
Let go. Place the curser over the highlighted section and right-click & select copy.
Go to where you want to paste, left click to place the curser then right click & select paste

Various buttons can be used as short cuts, but you do need to highlight first
For Microsoft windows
CTRL+C: Copy
CTRL+X: Cut
CTRL+V: Paste

Other useful ones - bold, underline and italic won't work on GR.
CTRL+Z: Undo
CTRL+B: Bold
CTRL+U: Underline
CTRL+I: Italic

If you google 'How to copy and paste' there are a number of explanations

DetEcTive's almost right, although if your cursor's already in the address box, clicking there won't work (but left dragging the cursor thru the URL would high-light it). If this is the case, click your cursor on some blank spot on the web page - you can then proceed as per DetEcTive's recipe.

Strange. I don't have to highlight the browser address, just left click. Not to worry as Alisoun has worked it out for herself. :-)
