Susan was Ronalds fathers 1st wife and if you do not have it the marriage cert may mention where they lived or death cert will give her address when she died

Very interested in your posting. I presume that Susan is not related to you. I am the grandson of Susan Allen nee Brown. My father (William) was born out of wedlock and raised by Susan's sister. I do know that Ernest was not his father. Susan died in 1922.

I'm trying to fill in Susan's years between 1915 to 1922. Do you have any information on where they lived?

Maybe a different system here in Scotland. A local resident found lots of old school registers, etc in the attic when he moved into what had been the local boys school. He passed them onto the village historian, who has since died. I would expect that he would have included them in his will.

School log books had to be kept and, when full, were returned to the local authority where they were archived. As Reggie said, your father would probably have attended the school nearest his home, although children sometimes had to travel further to, say, Roman Catholic schools as they weren't as numerous.

It may be worth you finding what the nearest schools were and contacting the local education authority who should still have the log books and, possibly, the school registers.

When the school in which I was teaching attained its centenary, we borrowed, from the local authority, all the log books dating back to its opening and they made very interesting reading. Similarly, when I was headteacher of two schools which were amalgamating I found, in the attic, several log books and old registers which were never returned to the local authority. If the schools still exist it may be worth you approaching them in case they still have some records.

Can anyone help, or point me in the right direction, to find out what my father, Ernest Walter Allen, born in Ipswich, Suffolk in the year 1899. I am trying to fill in gaps between 1901 and 1911 census, so where was he going to school? He married for the first time in 1917 so what did he do, perhaps for work, I believe he may have worked at Paul's Flour mill before moving to Kent around 1925ish.
