Missing birth

Member Since: February 2006 Posts: 13 Send Message	Here is a my problem. I have received the marriage certificate for my great great grandmother. Her name is shown as Gentylia but where she signs her name she has spelt it Gentillia. (Married John Alfred Powell in Bromley) Her fathers name is William Cooper, a gas worker. She is aged 21 in 1892 and is residing in North Cray Kent. I cannot find her on a census prior to this and I cannot find her birth.....I would appreciate any help x :-S

	What were the names of the witnesses on the marriage certificate? Thanks Added: Have you got her death details?

My Gentelia some times lists herself on the census as Jenty, or Genty. She couldn't read or write. She died on the 21st December 1915 in Fulham (51 Pearscroft Road). On her death certificate her name is listed as Genty. My gt gt grandfather was from a gipsy family. On one census she says that she was born in Eltham and another Anslow??!! On her daughters birth certificate her name is Gentelia Powell maiden name Cooper x

	Odds are that her birth simply wasn't registered Was she actually recorded as being 21 on her marriage cert?

	Reggie, That could be her in 1891. All the ages are multiples of 5, apart from the ones under 20. The enumerator makes a comment that he is unable to ascertain anything apart from the names. Rose

	Anslow is probably Hounslow. And In my own research I was never able to find my g/grandfathers birth record, but was able to find his Baptism, so I knew he existed!! Then about 2 months ago I decided I would try again, this time I just entered the surname Simpson, the area, and the 2 years either side of his birth (belt & braces). I then cross referenced all the named births and deaths of children, discounted all the deaths of those also named and was left with 1 birth of a Male Simpson in the right year and quarter. Now I know my g/grandfather had been disabled from birth (gammy leg) so I decided to order this certificate and when it arrived lo and behold there he was. Right home address, rigth parents. Now I can only assume that they registered his birth a.s.a.p. without naming him, then almost immediately went and had him Baptised. So as I have said in the past with this Family History malarky it really does pay to 'think outside the box' (god knows I hate these expressions) as it can really be useful. :-D
