Hi There,

Recently at our family gathering, we had a friendly dispute on a birth of my ancestor, we had 2 dates for his birth, and i'm hoping someone out there please help me on solving this without ordering the birth certificate.

Always known as Uncle Nickey, died in 2008.

1) 18-05-1922, or 2) 18-08-1922

Could be either.

You may get a better idea by a mothers maiden name match.

In theory if registered within 42 days, if it was the May birth it should have been registered in the June quarter, rather than the Sept Q. but it's so close that it could have been either date.

I agree with Gwyn - it could have been either but in theory the August date is more likely. Unfortunately the birth certificate is the only way to be certain.

His date of birth will be on his death cert.................and his birth cert

I agree with those who said you need to know his mother's ms (or look at the death cert.)
I assume you are sure he was born in Berkshire.
If so, I would plump for the August date.

The discrepancy is the month...........

Deaths on the commercial sites which might give a correct date of birth, only go up to 2006, so you can't check that way. You might get lucky with a birth announcement in a local paper of the time? Presume he has no children/siblings etc who might know.

Gary's Frederick married in Aldershot 1954.

He is on 192 with his wife up to 2006 so maybe he did die 2006 and not 2008.

Thankyou to all of you, who came in to help me.

I found the birth of my uncle Nickey.

He was born on 18-05-1922 Woolhampton, Berkshire, and his mothers maiden name is also Nicholls.

I got to apologise to everyone, i got my uncles death year wrong, as i said in an earlier message he died in 2008, actually it was 2006 in Surrey.
