Hello Everybody,
I am researching two men from Kinsale and one
enlisted in the Army 17-10-1894, he was born 1866 but his records state that
he was born 1873, the other man enlisted in the Navy Feb: 1917 and he was
born 2-4-1882 and his records state that he was born 1-5-1898. I have double
checked and I have the correct men because all other details on their
records are correct. Can anyone suggest why the dates stated are incorrect.

For the first man, do the records state he was born in 1873, or just that he was aged 21 and above? (Just a complete guess when I noticed his claimed age would be 21)
Could you give us their names so we can have a look?

Thank you for your help< The first man is GEORGE ROBERT TUCK b 1866. his record states he Enlisted In the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers 17-10-1894 aged 21 years & 4 months.
The 2nd man was JAMES OCONNELL, he Enlisted in the Navy 25-2-1917, he was born 2-4-1882, his Navy record has his birth date as 1st May 1898.

I can't imagine that the Navy would accept someone aged 35 as being 18 - simply not feasible
