Hi, can anyone tell me what the letter "jun" mean after a name? There are 2 names, at the same address which are identical, but after the second one it says "jun". Does that mean anything to anyone? |

Not uncommon where father and son have the same name. Until he was 60 my father had Jnr. after his name as his father was still living and they had the same Christian and middle names. Grandpa always had Snr. after his name. Even the wives were Mrs.A. B. Smith Sen. and Mrs. A. B. Smith Jnr. |

That's what I thought it must be - it refers to females by the way. |

I agree with the Junior - but always thought the official abbreviation was Jnr. |

Less commonly used for females. Where mother and daughter have the same names they are usually distinguished by the use of Mrs. and Miss. Of course their title is not usually given on census records so Jnr. & Sen. may be used. |
