Thank you all, seems more logical when someone else points it out :-)

My mum had a strangulated hernia and it was only quick medical attention in hospital that averted a tragedy

mum had acute bronchitus with awful coughing and one bout caused a hernia in her groin which eventually strangulated with later coughing

Google for it and it will give you details

Its nothing sinister

Strangulated hernia doesn't mean she was strangled,

Merely that she had a hernia that was acute and caused her death

"Strangulated hernias are always painful and pain is followed by tenderness. Nausea, vomiting, or fever may occur in these cases due to bowel obstruction"

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hernia

I'd say it was probably Strangulated Hernia, and the "certified" has been crossed out because the registrar realised (or maybe asked the question too late) that the doctor hadn't confirmed that the Hernia was "strangulated".

I shouldn't imagine that there was any foul play - at least I hope not!!

I just got my 4 x GrGrandmothers DC, she died in 1854 and the cause of death states."Strangulation" Hernia, certified. but then Hernia, certified has been crossed out and a Large question mark ? in its place, what you you think of it...? that the doctor didn't attend her death or maybe foul play?
