The birth would probably have been registered in the woman's name..........

BUT.............look for all Jamieson births after the date when he abandoned his family.....................if he was present when the birth was registered, it could have been in his name..............

Only the cert will confirm...............but, being practical, I doubt you will ever actually know

thanks .. don`t no mothers name , just that there is another child to the family
father william wood jamieson . he ran off with a woman and we no , as he told us he had another child but didn`t give any more info .

If the father were married to the mother, then presumably the child would have his surname and you could search the records (assuming England/Wales) like that. If the child has mothers maiden name, then no.
