Just found the following.....
Portrait of Madame Lul Gardo" [1973048], BUNNY, Rupert -
Displaycollections.ncc.nsw.gov.au/keemu/pages/nrm/Display.php?
"Lul (Varvara or 'Barbara') Gardo was a friend of my grandmother and Aunty Zoe, ... she used 2 names when writing to the Museum - Mme Gardo and Mrs Martin. ... Madame also came out to Australia on a tour in 1923, the newspaper article ..."
3. She married British soldier, a Mr Martin, sometime before WWII. I have a photo of her and her husband and my mother from that period. She wrote a letter to the Powerhouse Museum in 1959 (complaining about how bad her leg was, presumably the one injured by a dum dum bullet), so was alive then. Madame also came out to Australia on a tour in 1923, the newspaper article about this is on the Museum file. So perhaps the portrait was painted this early, certainly not 1917 as she was fighting in Russia then and did not evacuate until 1920, according to her book.

Hello Derek, have you done any searches on Trove, the Australian newspaper archives? http://trove.nla.gov.au/
Searching for Lul Gardo in the digitised newspaper section gives 107 hits with some very good articles.
I love this extract:
"Madame Lul Gardo, the Russian dramatic soprano, was a striking figure in her leopard skin dress, and Russian boots when she disembarked from the Ormonde at Brisbane the other day"

I am amazed at the response to my post and thank you all very much, I have lots of newspaper articles regarding Lul gardo. I apologise for my lack of genealogical expertise. Here are some details on Alasdair Martin that I gained from a contact in Australia. Born 25 January 1914 Oban Scotland Enlisted for WWII in Paddington, Sydney, NSW Australian Service number is NX14501 He died, aged 29, on 17 June 1943, apparently s a result of wounds received some time previously. His headstone is in Sydney’s Rookwood War Cemetery and says: N14501 PRIVATE A. MARTIN 2/13 INFANTRY BATTALION 17TH JUNE 1943 AGE 29 DEARLY BELOVED HUSBAND OF MADAME LUL GARDO. I presume that they married in Australia. I myself Live on the Isle of Luing Argyll. 18 miles south of Oban.

If Alasdair Martin was B 1914 then you would not be able to view his birth details on Scotlandspeople because of the 100 year rule but it would give the details needed to order the cert
Do you have any of the marriage certs?

What are you hoping for..................you haven't actually asked a question.
To learn the names of A Martin's parents, you will need to purchase credits on Scotlands people website...........£7.00 will get you 30.
Same site, to find info about James Macintyre. With such a common name, you need to know how old he was when he married, and the names of his parents, to be able to pinpoint him in census records

Researching the above, she was married to James Macintyre c1920, who was probably born in the 1890s. and died probably 1930s. He was an Argyll man possibly born in Oban. Varvara was a white Russian. born 1896. Also became known as Lul Gardo. She married James on HMS Dublin Limnos. Also the family of Alasdair Martin Bn 1914 Oban. her third husband, who died in Australia 1943
