Google translate isn't translating it, 'odopt flicka' are the words and I need to know is this a name or does it mean something? Could be a major breakthrough moment on my grandads side (daren't get hopes up yet and nobody in the family will put the work in...)

Flicka is definitely 'girl' . That much I remember.

Odopt literally means untitled, but can also be used to mean not baptized.

so could that mean an unnamed girl?

My sister in Sweden says odopt is the adjective for unbaptised
"Dopa"(with dots over the o) is "To baptise /name"
It's probably the same origine as our word "to dub"

Brigid - Oh yes!! A favourite within our family is the very same....Min skal, din skal, alla vackra flickor skal. I don't know how to find the 'accent' over the a in Skal to make it sound like skol.
My parents met in Stockholm when they were both working there in the early 1950's. I grew up learning many odd sayings!

Romany Star...ah yes, a book. It's been an idea for years, in fact I have an outline already sketched, but not of my life...it was my parents who had the wonderfully exciting lives, before and after they met, or so it seems to me! Finding the time to make a proper start on the story is my problem!
Lucky for me my Dad took quite a few photos when he was in Sweden (Stockholm mainly)...and left me all his diaries! :-)

Good luck with researching your granddad Valdis Krilovs....have you made much headway ?

why not start with an article ...then make the book ;
i really enjoyed writing up the searcg for my grandmothers birthparents .1st part is published Iand i can do a talk in the local library about what went wrong "embarking up the wrong family tree" everytime I think part 2 is ready something else crops up ..had a translation of Latvian (Russian)familyrecords mailed to me yesterday .

Start with an article...that's a good idea. :-)
Latvian family records!? You lucky girl.....I have been trying to do my mother's Lithuanian family tree for donkey's years and it's one step forward three steps back all the way!

karen .the russian lady who helps people may help you too .she's called Tana ;I found her on search engine ..she does charge 4 full work and translations of documents but points you in right direction 1st .or is lithuania miles from Russia ???
