On the site there is also a section marked "Legacies"

Some may find it quite informative, as it provides info on UK property/ stately homes/ parks ect which were either owned, purchased or built by plantation owners.

Funded on slavery!

Thanks for this - OH's cousin on her paternal side contacted someone on another site who shared her maiden name. She was shocked to discover that the person was descended from a Slave who had taken the plantation owners surname.

It did open another line of enquiry!

Legacies of British Slave Ownership

The section on tonight's show was based in Glasgow and I found it fascinating.
I had no idea that compensation was paid to to UK merchants who "lost out" with the abolition of slavery.

This is the search site referred to in the programme.
Search by name/area/shire to see who claimed from the £20m payout!
( think thay said it equated to £62billion in today's money)I

I simply entered Glasgow/ Aberdeen/London ect to see the names of claimants and their awards.
Full national list also works with: Scotland/England/Ireland/Wales
