Sorry to be a thicko but I haven't used searches for some time now and I can't figure out how to search a census for a specific area. :-(

well if you use the free Mormon website - www.familysearch.org - it leads you into exactly how to search - give it a go

Which website are you using?

BUT......all sites have options for specifying location when you search

I don't know whether GR do...........I never ever use them for research

Surely on the Mormon site the only census you can access for free is the 1881?

The only way to search by area on GR is to put the relevant place-name where it says "optional keywords".
