Do you know if the father actually DID pay maintenance? If so you might find something in Magistrate Court Record Books. As long as the case was more than 30 years ago you can see the record books. |

If the parents were not married then his name would only be on the birth certificate if he agreed to go to the register office with the mother and admitted paternity. |
