My deceased mother born1903 had father die when she was 3 months old and mother die when she was 11 years old . mother had no siblings and her mother was an only child therefore she had no immediate family to care for her.
I believe she was befriended by a couple who had a nearby fish/chip shop and she often mentioned their name. they already had a daughter and an adopted girl in 1911.
This happened in 1915. In 1911 census she was living with her mother and the 1921 census should help me. In 1926 she married my father.
My query is how could I find if she was adopted, either officially or unofficially

Did her name change other than by marriage?

If it didn't, she wasn't adopted

And adoption wasn't a legal procedure until the mid-1920's, by which time she;d have been an adult, and married

If she married in her birth name then she wasn't adopted
Was more likely fostered as official adoption didn't start till 1927

Looks like she married in her birth name born and married in Wakefield if I have followed the correct one?

How about the marriage cert does that give any witness's names that could be members of this family?

Your mum would already have been married when adoption became legal.

In England and Wales adoption first became legal in 1926, while in Northern Ireland it was 1929 and in Scotland it was 1930.
