What extra information will I find by buying parish records?

Parish records are invaluable for BMD's before compulsory registration started.

Otherwise, it depends what the person writing the record put in - could vary a lot from one place to another.

Some baptisms have the childs' date of birth and also the home address.

lots of info in the parish registers - I have the ones for my local parish - they are invaluable - I bought them from the local Family History Society - not very expensive

It depends what years you are talking about.

As Ann says, they are definitely worth having, particularly if you have lots of ancestors from the same place.

I have the CD covering Hope in Derbyshire and have found lots of relatives on it.

The records cover about 200 years and the amount of extra information varies a lot depending on who was writing them up!

If you mean the extra charge to use the parish records on this site? It maybe worth looking at a free site first

https://familysearch.org/

http://www.freereg.org.uk/

or google the area you are interested in and you may find OPC's for that area

as Jax says, some counties have very good OnLine Parish Clerk records (OPC)

for example,

Lancashire has a very good site .............. Lancashire OnLine Parish Clerks project (OPC)

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Search/indexp.html

or go to this site to see if the area you are interested in is part of the project .....

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/online_parish_clerk

The sites I've mentioned are free .................. they depend on volunteers to transcribe the Parish registers.
