Thank you all. I do check here almost every day but I have other interests too. I have done alot of FH research over the years.

I have just lost both my Grandfather and his wife my step Grandma in the last 2 months. I guess I will have to ask my aunt the name of the homes they died in to apply. I know the area.

The 'new' records on Ancestry are not quite what you expect. They are not f4om the GRO. Many/none have a GRO index. Most have some date on then, not always the death date.

There is a lot on the Ancestry FB page.

What it looks like is someone has tried to create a death database from the newly released probate reords and got it so very wrong!!

If they had an Estate which went to Probate, you might find a listing here.

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

Wills/Grants can be ordered at a cost of £10.

NOTE - not everyone's Estate gets listed. Small Estates or if everything was left to the surviving spouse tend not to be included.

Think that's only for birth certs, Dazed. :-)

And I think that now for more recent certificates you may need to explain why you want it.

Actually just seen ancestry have added deaths to 2013 ! But they aren't complete

You could try a search though you may be lucky

If you don't have access then PM me and I will take a look for you

Give me all the details you know for the person you are looking for

you wont find deaths online after c2005/7 depending on the site and then not all have been transcribed

you would have to order the cert from the local register office to where the person died

How long before I can apply online for a death certificate for a relative who recently died please? I am not the immediate relative. Thank you
