Hi, I am trying to trace my great, great, great grandfather, George Elliot, born about 1808 in Roxburgh, Scotland who was a farmer. He had a son called John, my great, great grandfather who was born in 1838 in Hawick, Roxburgh. John moved to Forest and Frith, Teesdale, Durham and married Frances Garget in 1859.

I have just recently received John Elliot's marriage certificate which states that his father's name was George Elliot, born in Roxburgh, Scotland.George attended John and Frances's wedding in Forest and Frith, Teesdale, Durham in 1859. I am grateful for the information you gave me as I didn't realise that the age of a person was rounded down to multiples of 5 for the purpose of the 1841 census. I will now look on Scotlandspeople to see when George and his wife Isabella died.
