Thr ERO is going to reduce the number of hours the searchroom is open from 49.5 hours per week to 34.5.

From Monday 6th April, it will be closed on Mondays and alternate Saturdays (with exceptions).

Maybe they had too few researchers on a Monday so keeping it open was too costly

Guess if you aren't at work during the week then any other day can be pencilled in

We went there three times and found there weren't many people there every time .one time we were there by 11am and I had finished finding what I could by 1 pm so we went on to Heybridge Basin to take a look at where some of my ancestors came from . Was a lovely sunny day so made a good day out from our home in kent

Shirley, I researched a Heybridge family a while back. A remote cousin had married a twice widowed lady. I was intrigued by the interesting relationships her mother had.

Now that a number of the PR are available via their site, only the more dedicated FH researchers are going to visit.

Obviously they hold far more records than PR, but I'd be guessing that's what the majority of their visitors would be perusing.

It's all down to saving money. Let's hope the staff have been redeployed rather than have their own hours/jobs cut.

I have used the site a few times £5 for 24 hours lot cheaper than getting in the car and driving there plus parking fees I guess

The parking was atrocious when we went there. It's very busy area and you had to go down a narrow entrance to get to the parking at the rear of the place. The last time we went hubby dropped me off and found easier parking elsewhere and went window shopping and had a snack then came back for me .

It is easier now and less costly to look online especially now they have altered the way you pay the tolls on the Dartford crossing
