This is not something that will be useful to regulars here

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/cs/free-access

now until Sunday

but it could be of interest to people posting help requests who do not have subscriptions and would like to try to find something in particular, or just try out the site.

Something to pass on maybe if it looks like it could be useful.

I know Jean, don't we all ... some more than others of course! :-D

I am lucky to have had only one ancestor wander off to Scotland ... although that's not quite true, I actually may have cousins there via a great-grandparent's nephew who wandered off to South Africa and then one of his sons followed his distant Scottish roots on the other side back home ...

I've tried a little (a family that went by so many names it is hard to keep up, ending with the one who headed to Scotland from SA adopting his wife's name, apparently to curry favour with a father-in-law who owned an automobile dealership, and having children first with one surname and then the other ... !!!!) but you know, I should spend a little and see whether I can find them ... you can never have too many cousins :-)

also just a note ...

sign up for free offers when they come along, and you may get more

I got that one because I opened a free account at Ancestry during a time when my sub had expired, for a similar free weekend offer, and got sent this new offer to that free account (having renewed my own sub in the meantime)

same thing with FindMyPast where I don't have a sub ... they had free credits on offer a while back, so I signed up a few times :-) ... and I just got an offer for a month of worldwide access for £1 (which turned out to be true, no 'first month for £1' and then pay for 11 months ...)

That's good news, in the Lost Cousins Newsletter, about the BMD information not having to be on a certificate. It deserves its own thread on here.
