The following is an extract from the latest 'Lost Cousins' Newsletter;
" Family Tree DNA and Findmypast announce partnership The link between DNA and genealogy is getting ever closer, which is why both last year's inaugural Genealogy in the Sunshine and next month's event had to feature presentations from Debbie Kennett, who is not only the UK's leading blogger on the use of DNA in family history research but also Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Human Genetics, Evolution and Environment at University College London.
Even more impressive is that Debbie has been a LostCousins member for 9 years - then again, almost all the distinguished speakers at Genealogy in the Sunshine are long-term members!
Yesterday Findmypast announced a partnership with Family Tree DNA, the company that I and my cousins have tested with. At this stage I don't know the extent to which the two sets of data (DNA results and family trees) will be interlinked, but no doubt more information will come to light in the coming weeks."
As a member of FMP, and currently awaiting DNA results from Family Tree DNA, I will wait with anticipation to see what evolves from this partnership

Allan, you budding DNA expert you!
FTDNA has been trying to expand into traditional genealogy kinds of things ... a while back it was surveying members about what family tree software they use ...
and I suspect the companies that provide traditional genealogy info on line are eager to get into the DNA aspect of it
Just last week, FTDNA also sent out this:
'Since 2012 Family Tree DNA has teamed up with MyHeritage to integrate our DNA tests to their international customer base of 80 millions users. This represents an additional step by Family Tree DNA in expanding into new markets for the benefit of our more than 8,100 Surname and Geographic Projects.
Family Tree DNA is again partnering with MyHeritage to offer a limited-time price reduction on MyHeritage's specialized historical records collection, SuperSearch. ...'
so I guess there are more traditional genealogy companies to go around than there are genetic genealogy companies, and the traditional ones can't demand exclusive partnerships :-)
apparently nobody wants anything to do with Ancestry.com, which now is only offering the useless tests about your 'ancestry' -- that there was a thread here about a few days ago http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1349122
... and by the way, Debbie Kennett (who is the project administrator for the Devon project at FTDNA) has had something to say (as have many other actual scientists) about the Ancestry.com kinds of tests, which she calls 'genetic astrology' :-D

http://www.legalgenealogist.com/blog/2014/12/14/it-isnt-so/
those articles point out the difference between
- tests like Ancestry's, which tell you 'you are a Viking'
- the ones that you and I have done and like the one done for Richard III, which are real science (and are useful for genealogy only if you can prove or disprove a likely match with someone else who has tested)
I expect that the partnership between FMP and FTDNA will involve things like - mutual discounts - the ability to link the ancestors in your FTDNA accounts to records or family trees (do they have them?) at FMP, maybe

JC, from the same newsletter;
"AncestryDNA launching in the UK Ancestry are already linking DNA results to tree data, but to date their test has only been available in the US. Now AncestryDNA have set up a UK website and are taking orders from invited subscribers - so there's another choice opening up for family historians in the UK.
Choosing the DNA company to test with isn't a simple decision, so I'm not going to make any recommendations until I've heard what Debbie Kennett has to say next month."
I've not been on to the website yet, as I've only just received the newsletter, and it is still early in the morning! :-)
Thanks for the links, I'll check them out soon

I had only looked at the newsletter this morning as far as the challenge :-)
he says
'Choosing the DNA company to test with isn't a simple decision, so I'm not going to make any recommendations until I've heard what Debbie Kennett has to say next month.'
haha. I know what Debbie will say!
Ancestry's testing is genetic astrology, and a complete waste of money.
apart from costing nearly twice as much in the UK as in the US:

Don't even mention the plummeting Ozzie dollar against the Greenback when it comes to prices! :-( :-D :-D
