I am researching the Simmonds family tree for a friend and have hit a dead end with William Simmonds born in 1821 in Wem in Shropshire. I have no date of death but do know he married Ellen Hodnet also in Wem in 1943 and they had a son John Simmonds 1843-1894.He married Elizabeth Thompson 1847-1873. I am anxious to go back a generation or two and wonder if anyone can help to trace the parents of William Simmonds and Ellen Hodnet, Thanking you in anticipation. |

Hi Shirley. I don't have the sons marriage cert. The information I have for the family so far is from public trees and ancestry hints which appears to be fairly accurate. |

Hi again. Yes, this is definitely the correct marriage to Ellen Hodnet. Does your source give either of the parents? |

Glitter baby. That's brilliant. Does your source give a birth date for Ellen Hodnet ? Many thanks Wendy |

It does sound like her. Being 15 she could have been working in service and she possibly could have married at 17 especially as it looks as ih it might have been a shotgun wedding with her son being born in the same year, |

I don't think the 1826 one can be her as she married and had a child in 1843. |

Just realised what you mean as the one on the 1841 census could be the one you have just described. |

I wonder if this could be William Simmonds listed on the same page as Ellen/Ellen on the 1841 census. |

It does sound rather like him. Wish I could find the full name of his parents as that is really the only bit missing but I don't have any access to anything going back later than1821 except other trees and couldn't get anywhere with those/ All I know from his marriage cert was that his father was called William Simmonds too. Think I will have to admit defeat. Thanks again for all your hard work and the help you have given me. |
