Dear all who have replied,
thank so much, it was fasinating and helpful.
I have been work on my family tree for sometime and had got to some dead ends.

Ada was my step great granmother. I know she was a relative of John Makintosh of Toffos fame but not sure what her connection was to him.any help appriciated. She was the second wife of my great grand father James Maclaurin of Sheffield.
