Prior to 1837 you're relying on parish records. Whether or not the records you're looking for are online yet depends on the parish you're interested in. Most of the transcriptions are being done by volunteers working at their own pace.

if you are looking for baptisms, marriages or burials, see if there are Online Parish Records for the county of interest.


Some counties, eg Lancashire, had excellent OPC records


try this site to find out if your county or counties are covered

google the town or village that you are interested in, some of them have records online



but GR is not good for old records.



as Jacqueline said, most of us who help on here do not use GR records ourselves.

Hardly anyone who uses GR does so for the records..............only for the help given by other members.

Those who give the help certainly use other sites.

You can always ask for assistance if you are having problems

They have a selection of Parish Registers and lots of newspapers which are pre 1831.

If you look on Search, above, you can see whether there are any for your particular area of research.

Just wondering, I'm looking for information pre 1831 - do the records on this site go back further than this, or are the dates limited, unlike other genealogy sites?
