emigration to new york

Trying to find records of emigrations to New York around 1900's for the Thomas family from Sutton Llandow Glamorgan (possibly David Thomas ) Family story is they were supposed to go from Fishguard but due to bad weather went from Holyhead , but I don't know how much truth is in that . Did ships leave for New York from those places at that time . ?

Edit . I did say possibly David or Michael but Michael (or Micah) is on the 1911 census

David was born around 1871 He is 9 on the 1881 census . 19 on the 1891 but cannot find him after that . I do know his brother Hugh went to Canada.in the 1890s

found a shipping list of departures from Liverpool 1905 but not from Wales . but threre are no addresses and David Thomas is a common name . Iwas looking for earller than that

you have to register, but it is free

IF the immigrant is on there, you can see the ship's manifest, it tells you the name of the ship, where it came from and where the immigrant is going




Click on Passenger Search, then just follow instructions, and use your common sense .....................



they changed the site last year, and it is a little bit less easy to use than it was :-(

Thanks I've been trying Ellis Island but no luck so far .could be just a family story . but I do know his brother Hugh definitely went to Canada, thanks to help on my other message here .

92 David Thomas arrived on Ellis Island between 1891 and 1901 ..............

Ships mostly left from Liverpool, Glasgow, Southampton, London.
They did pick up passengers along the way, mostly from Londonderry or Queenstown (Cork), plus some French channel ports.

A well-researched passenger list is the Titanic's. Of the 2222+ passengers at the time of sinking on her maiden voyage from Southampton, 257 had embarked at Cherbourg and 119 at Queenstown. An additional 20 had debarked at Cherbourg and 9 at Queenstown.
