On the second page of the document on below link from the National Maritime Museum documents can anyone interpret the name of the previous ship for Colin Campbell the Chief Engineer?

On the transcription it says "Previous vessel Cirdic"

Eidic ??

The first letter looks like the E at the start of Engineer, rather than any of the C's on the pages.

The transcription on the website has it as Cirdic, but I'm not convinced

I would go along with ArgyllGran's interpretation

Have you googled to see if either vessel existed?

the c written in colin and campbell does not look like the name of the vessel with a C could be a E

Can't see anything for Eidic. White Star Line ships all ended in -ic, but no Eidic.

The list includes a Cedric, but no Cirdic - can't see mention of a Cerdic anywhere else either - at least not around 1915 - and no Cirdic.
And the initial letter still looks like an E to me.

I cant find either name , I did think Eider ..........? ships number 113912 but it doesn'tlook like that really either......

Janet - where & when was he born?

Reason for asking is that crew & passenger lists may show him and possibly the name of the ship may be clarified that way.

It's hard to make out if his age was 51 or 54 on the particulars of engagement.

Was on all of those ships I had had little luck in finding out much about him until I found the Erme record on the crewlists website, I now have the ships log for that journey to Baffin Island and the crew lists for Erme, Lochside and Hartburn (latter two on National Maritime Museum lists for 1915)

btw I do have all the birth marriage census records etc so as people don't waste too much time posting those details) x

I had little luck in finding a death for him so am trying to build a time line through Merchant navy records so far have got as far as late 1915 (Lochside) He was a ships engineer on screw steamers mostly coal up and down the east coast

Just for interest - I expect you have this already, Janet -

James Deuchar Ltd had a brewery at Montrose, and transported their beers to the Tyne by ship, including the "Lochside". The ships were dubbed "beer boats".

This explains the references to Montrose and Newcastle in the image in the link in Janet's OP.

Thank you ArgyllGran for the additional info, if only I could find as much out about him as I could about his ships !

still the revelation of finding some of these crew lists etc on line a few weeks backs has confirmed my thoughts that you should never give up looking. Some of the places he went to were fascinating.

and at least I now know he lived till at least 52 so can discard any deaths before 1915 :o)
