Welcome to the boards Hine.

Can you give your grandmother's name and approximate date of birth and someone will try to help. When was she married and who to?

FreeBmd only holds the BMD indexes for England and Wales.
People born in Scotland will be on http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Familysearch.org have a number of records for Ireland.

England/Wales civil registration didn't start until 1837 but birth reg wasn't compulsory until 1876
Scotland's started in 1855
Not sure when Irelands started!

Irish records started at different times.

Non-catholic marriages in 1845

Other BMD's in 1864

Hine

If you'd like a helping hand, post the info you have

One thing...........don't assume that a birth was in the same area as the marriage...........it may not be

Was she Violet Turnbull married in 1949 in Westminster ?

You have her in your tree with approx year of birth as 1929 but someone else has her with a middle name which is not showing on the marriage index

Maybe she wasn't a Turnbull at birth the marriage cert will give her age and father's name of known

Edit looks like she was, there are two births for that 1949 marriage mmn Turnbull

If that is the right marriage then looks like she remarried in 1981

Records give her as Violet. and Julie V

There are several births for violet turnbull pre 1929 so you need that cert to see her age and father's name
