When and where was he born and do you have him in the 1901 census?
Frederick Street doesn't seem to be coming up on the 1911 census.

Hi Kath
Iam afraid all I know is that his name and address appeared in WW1 record of a deceased soldier, he was listed as a uncle of the decd.
I think he may have been a brother of the mans mother, who I have as Mary Carney in the marriage index. That is why unsure of spelling of surname, Mary was born in Birkenhead in 1865 so Thomas I presume around same time.
I just wondered if I could find Thomas may lead to more clues to this family.
Thanks

Have you found Mary Carney on earlier censuses to see if she did have a brother Thomas?
It's a pretty long gap from the 1911 Census to some time between 1914-1918 .............. many people rented and tended to move around

Are you certain that Mary was born in Birkenhead? Do you have a birth certificate for her or if not do you have her marriage certificate for her father's name?
This is the only Mary Carney I can find with a brother called Thomas but they were born in Birmingham:-

Hi Kath
Mary is in the 1901 census with family Thomas Brady Mary Brady wife born Birkenhead 1865
They are in St. Ann Parish Birkenhead Cheshire.
They married in Jan Q 1881 Birkenhead ,index shows her as Mary Ann Carney.
The death of her son Joseph in 1917 WW1 records shows the names and address of family including uncle Thomas Kearney of Frederick St Birkenhead.
I was interested to find people in 1911 census in Frederick ST.
Thank you for your reply.

I couldn't find a Mary (Ann) Carny on the earlier censuses, which made me wonder if she had either changed her name or whether it had been misspelled on the marriage registration.

You should buy the marriage certificate, that will give you her father's name, and thus help find the family.

I have had a look at the record and it is pretty detailed with all the family, isn't it? I hope you don't mind me adding this.
His parents and siblings are all at 12 Myrtle Court, Birkenhead except brother Frank, who is in canada and a sister (not Jane, Maggie or Lizzie) who is now Mrs Sweeney and lives at 36 Wycliffe St.
Uncles and Aunts by BLOOD of the soldier are Mrs Murray, Watson Street and the aforementioned Thomas Kearney of Fredirick Street, Birkenhead.
Have you found Mrs Murray?

Hi All,
Thank you for your searches.
I have just found a 1871 census it has been transcribed as family Karney. Head James, wife Jane MY A Karney************* age 7 b 1864 Birkenhead Thomas age 5 b 1866
Address 30 Frederick Street Birkenhead.
This must be the family, as Thomas is still there in 1917c. I have found the Mrs Sweeney family mentioned.
Thanks again

Hi Alviegal
Thank you for the information, Iam now confused here is what I have.
In 1871 census I have a James Karney 28 and wife Jane 25 children Mary Ann 1864 Thomas 1865. James married Jane McCabe in 1863 all this in Birkenhead.
Mary Ann Carney married in 1880 Thomas Brady.
1881 Census above
Thomas CARNEY listed as a grandson age 14 b Birkenhead possible brother of Mary Ann carney
Thomas Brady b 1851 son in law Mary Ann Brady b 1849 Mary Ellen Brady 4 months granddaughter this baby died in 1883.
The ages of Mary Ann Brady nee Carney don't add up!! The relationship of Mary to head is this daughter'granddaughter ?
Iam usuing Ancestry to look for the BASR but they only have BA Records 1914-1920 Where do I look for the 1760-1915 you mention
Thank you
