So what is interesting to me in that long list of records that Malyon has posted, without attribution or further detail is that I spotted the following baptisms and marriages.
I've put them into year order .................
1. England Births and Christenings
Name Sally Ann Marriot Salmons Gender Female Christening Date 29 Apr 1836 Christening Place PADBURY,BUCKINGHAM,ENGLAND Mother's Name Martha Salmons
2. England and Wales Marriage Registration Index
Name George Salmons Event Type Marriage Registration Quarter Oct-Nov-Dec Registration Year 1837 Registration District Buckingham County Buckinghamshire Event Place Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, England Volume 6 Page 565 Line Number 109
George Salmons probably married one of the following people Name Martha Gibberd
3. England Births and Christenings Name Ann Salmons Gender Female Christening Date 22 Apr 1838 Christening Place Padbury, Buckingham, England Father's Name George Salmons Mother's Name Martha Salmons
If you look at the dates ...................
Sally Ann Marriot Salmons was baptised before Martha and George married, but was given his surname and Martha is shown as Martha Salmons. BUT George's name is not on the Register itself.
That indicates that George acknowledged the child as his, and there is even a hint there that Martha was known as being Martha Salmons, maybe even living with George.
It might be very interesting if you could get a look at the original Parish Register to see if the Vicar made any notes in the margin as to the parentage of Sally

Thankyou very much, I have passed all the information on to Trish n New Zealand, her direct relation is Sally Ann married to William Drewry. Wonders where the Marriot came from in the name of Sally Ann Marriot Salmons. 'Sally Ann married William Drewry - that's my lineage, he is my 3rd Great-Grandfather. I am trying to find out what Martha's name was. If she was unmarried and a Salmons. So Sally Ann is a Marriot Salmons but then another daughter is just Salmons, and another daughter just Marriot .. Confusing? Dianne :-D

Sylvia I don't think there is proof that
Martha Salmons mother of Sally Ann Marriot Salmons
is the same person as
Martha Gibberd who married George Salmons
?
Is it not possible that there was a Martha Salmons, perhaps a sister or cousin of George Salmons?
Dianne, does your friend have the marriage certificate
Marriages Mar 1855 DREWRY William Maidstone 2a 453 SALMONS Sally Ann Marrott Maidstone 2a 453
and does Sally Ann name her father?
this has been confusing since you initially said
'Mary Ann Marriott is the actual person being researched. A search of all on GR brings up no result, neither does anything by Rebekah. My friend is related to the Mary Ann who married someone named Salmons.'
and that seems to be rather messed up :-)
this looks like the household,in 1841 in Padbury (between two Gibberd households: William 69 and John 35)
George Salmons 23 Martha Salmons 22 Ann Salmons 3 Newman Salmons 1
No Sally
and no Sally in the 1851 household:
George Salmons 33 Martha Salmons 34 Ann Salmons 13 Newman Salmons 10 Elizabeth Salmons 7 Thomas Salmons 5 Sarah Salmons 2 Catherine Salmons 5 Mo

This is Sally in 1851 ... Sally is a nickname for Sarah, and Sally Ann married in Kent
Name: Sarah Ann Salman Age: 15 Estimated birth year: abt 1836 Relation: Servant Gender: Female Where born: Padbury Hur, Buckinghamshire, England Civil Parish: Great Chart County/Island: Kent Country: England Registration district: West Ashford
my bet is that this is the Martha mother of Sally Ann in 1841 .
Name: Martha Salman Age: 25 Estimated birth year: abt 1816 Gender: Female Where born: Buckinghamshire, England Civil Parish: Padbury Hundred: Buckingham County/Island: Buckinghamshire
William Betts 30 Mary Betts 30 Thomas Betts 9 Ann Betts 5 Louisa Betts 3 William Betts 3 Mo Martha Salman 25
on the facing page are an Elizabeth Salmon, 50, with several daughters and also a Rebecca Roberts, 10

Name Martha Salmons Gender Female Christening Date 19 Jan 1816 Christening Place PADBURY,BUCKINGHAM,ENGLAND Father's Name Mark Salmons Mother's Name Elizabeth
same parents, son George, who matches the George who married Martha Gibberd perfectly (age in 1851 was 33)

Name George Salmons Gender Male Christening Date 01 Feb 1818 Christening Place PADBURY,BUCKINGHAM,ENGLAND Father's Name Mark Salmons Mother's Name Elizabeth

interestingly though, Martha Gibberd Salmons died in Kent
Deaths Sep 1900 Salmon Martha 81 E. Ashford 2a 488
postem at freebmd says (the error is that it should say W. Ashford)
14/04/2013 District and reference are as per the GRO index entry. Error is NOT FreeBMD's. Martha was born in Padbury, maiden name GIBBARD, wife of George SALMONS.

I think she found out that there were 2 Martha Salmons. One was the sister of George, and the other Martha Giberd who married George and became Salmons' She seems to think that was where all the confusion started Thanks Dianne

and I swear I'm not going to do third-person help ... has this person even known about the help being attempted here, let alone appreciated it? ... there is no reason why she could not have read what is posted here
I believe this is Martha Salmons in 1861
Name: Martha Prior Age: 46 Estimated birth year: 1815 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: John Prior Gender: Female > Where born: Padbury, Buckinghamshire, England > Civil Parish: Great Chart County/Island: Kent John Prior 57 Martha Prior 46
same place as Sally/Sarah was in 1851
here she is in 1851
Name: Martha Prcory - it's Priory Age: 36 Estimated birth year: abt 1815 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: John Prcory Gender: Female > Where born: Buckenhamshire > Civil Parish: Great Chart County/Island: Kent Name Age John Prcory 36 Martha Prcory 36
and then full circle, Sally is Sarah Salmon living with Martha's and George's parents in Padbury in 1841
Mark Salmon 45 Elizabeth Salmon 45 Francis Salmon 20 Thomas Salmon 14 Mark Salmon 12 Catherine Salmon 9 Fanny Salmon 7 Sarah Salmon 5
(on the facing page to Martha Salmon in the Betts household posted above)
so I will stick with the theory that Sally Ann's father was a Marriot ... there were none in Padbury at the time, but there was a clan of them in Maid Moreton just the other side of Buckingham, for instance.

I'm sorry, I believe she is very new to her research, I have cut and pasted every reply from this board on f/b to her, I cannot do it for her and you guys are doing more than enough to help her, for which I appreciate it, even if she does not fully inderstand. You have all done enough for her, she has to do the rest for herself, good experience for her tro find it out for herself. Regards Di

Hi Dianne, you know you don't have to cut and paste anything for her, just give her this link:
http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/genealogy_chat/thread/1355398
and she can read the whole thing very easily for herself
(and be sure to tell her to click to move on to page 2, as that part stymies more than one poster :-) )
If you have explained to her that several complete strangers have put this time and effort into her questions, I would have thought she might have passed a note of thanks back ...
