Hi, guys, my subscription expires tomorrow so time for one last question. Several family members and I can't locate my great granddad Edward Stephen stokes (he called himself Stephen on most documents) on the 1891 or 1901 census. He was born 1863 and married Hannah smith in uppingham 1893 and I have him on the 1881 census as a servant from whissendine, Rutland but sadly, he changed his age and was constantly on the move from Yorkshire to wales to the midlands before dying in Swansea in1920 but he and his wife Hannah vanished between 1891-1901. I have them back again in 1911 but would appreciate any help in locating them on the census between 1891-1901. Hannah Smith (Bown) was born 1876 in Warton. P.S, their daughter Emma Stokes was born Barnsley in 1901 but I still can't find them there. Best. |

Hi, Edward Stephen stokes was listed as working in middlesborough in 1920 where his death certificate indicated, but he actually died at his Swansea address. I have him in 1911, I just cant find him in the 1891 and 1901 census, thanks. |

This caused some confusion in my initial searching but it is him and Edward was born in whissendine 1863 and died aged 57 in Swansea 1920. Jut a grieving widows mistake. |

Hi, yes, I have the cert signed by my great nan at her usual address. The Edward stephen stokes who died in rugby was my great granddads son. I know the births of all their children, I just cant find him and Hannah in the 1891 and 1901 census. Thanks. |

If you could list the births of any children around the time of the censuses it could help narrow down where we should be looking. |

Matthew said in his OP Emma was born Barnsley. Googling Broomhill, Barnsley (1911 census pob for Emma is Broomhill) does bring up a Broomhill, Barnsley, although freebmd doesn't show it specifically as a Barnsley RD civil Parish |
