Is it possible to get a get a close look at photo's of people on public trees. The reason I ask is that I am doing a bit of research for a friend at work and have found photos of her relatives on a public tree in Ancestry. I am not a member so cant view them clearly. I do not want to tell her to join Ancestry to get a better look at these photos if she can't do that.

You could take out a free 14 day trial, but if you already have a dormant account you may need to use a different email address. Alternatively you could register via a different domain eg .com etc. just remember to phone and cancel well before the period is up.
Can you get to a library? Most will have access to the site through a 'Library' edition sub.

If you wanted a subscriber to have a look, give us details of the name and other relatives they would be linked to - parents, spouse - and if possible the name of the tree.

Sometimes what we might think is a portrait photo turns out to be a census image or some other document. One person researching the same extended family as I has attached so called Coats of Arms associated to their surnames. Presumably it's to help him keep track of the various Lines. they come up as 'hints' against my tree and have a tendency to drive me nuts!

Thanks DetEcTive.

Yes I do have a dormant account so I would have to find a new email address. My Husband has one too so I cant use that one.

I have tried to look at them in the Library but they won't let you see the photos or the tree anymore.

This is the family I am interested in

Walter Christmas Doy

Born in Southwold, Suffolk, England on 25 Dec 1856 to William Doy and Harriett Tink. Walter Christmas married Louisa Welsh and had 10 children. He passed away on 22 Mar 1934 in Southwold, Suffolk, England.

Family Members
Parents:-

Father was William Doy 1831-1892 Mother was Harriett Tink 1829-1910

Spouse(s) Louisa Welsh 1860-1944

Children

Ellen Jane Doy 1879-1960
Walter James Doy 1881-1949
Thomas William Doy 1883-Unknown
Gertrude Millicent Doy 1885-1886
Arthur Charles Doy 1883-1953
Harriet Emily Doy 1893-1962
Frederick John Doy 1896-1966
Gladys Kathleen Doy 1898-1980
William Campbell Doy 1900-1971
Louisa Elizabeth Doy 1906-1907

I googled him and found the photos and a tree. I have had another look but can't see who the tree belongs to. If someone would be kind enough to take a look at the photos and see if they are worth pursuing that would be a great help.

I have shown my friend how to use familysearch so she can now do some of the research herself, but she did seem interested in the photos. Any help with them would be appreciated. Thanks again

Quite a few photos come up on a google search. Try doing it again but selecting images.

There are a number of others.

Thanks DetEcTive. I will take another look. I will also pass the information on to my friend as she should be the one taking over the research now. After all that is what family history is all about, Making new discoveries.

I will help her if she gets stuck but over wise leave her too it. What I didn't want to do is tell her to join Ancestry when it really wasn't going to help her.

All the best

The tree is called Mills and Doy Family tree, owner margaretlake47 She last signed in 2 months ago.

Most of the attachments are copies of census images and one of his probate entry. Your friend can find it for free on https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

There is one other photo image, dated 1927. Have sent as an attachment to a PM.

Hope she feels better soon
