If I have ever at any time mentioned my Grandfather Thomas Atkinson in a thread seeking help about his wives and children then I apologise NOW
My Grand Father Thomas Atkinson was married more than once and fathered several children. My Mother Ella Doreen Atkinson being the youngest b1928-d1994
Mother had several brothers and sisters. All had Thomas Atkinson for a Father.
GF was a widower when he married Janet Stewart Dodds a widow abt1919 Janet died in 1945 Janet had been married to a chair maker from South Shields(?)
Thomas had been married to woman called Rutherford who I know was the Mother of his son Joseph.
Other sons to Thomas were, George, Ralph, and others. His daughters were named Alice, May, Ethel, Nellie, Janet and my Mother Ella Doreen..

What I don't know and seek help with is which of the children were born to Rutherford and which to JANET STEWART DODDS

GF was the son of John who was the son of Joseph Atkinson.

If you look at freebmd Ella Doreen's mother's maiden name was Stewart.

If you look for Atkinson children on freebmd with mmn Stewart you should be able to identify Ella & George who were possibly the only ones born to Janet

Thomas only appears to have married Janet in 1928

LancashireAnn, I had his certificate gave it and Thomas' birth, wedding and death certificate to my brother Dennis and didn't scan them on to my hard drive.

Ralph, my Mother's brother, senior in years is on a way memorial, he was killed in action in WW11 and his name is given as Ralph Atkinson

To be honest LancashireAnn I don't know. When my Mother died I came across some documents which included a copy of my Mother's birth certificate, my GF's birth, wedding and death certificate. Included with these was a certificate for Joseph and that's where I linked it to Cunningham. I've since given all these certificates to my brother (who is tidier than I am). These few documents started my interest in my parents ancestry.

my Mother's maiden name be Stewart?

Unless it's giving a mistake I made previously and was unaware of :-S

Thomas married Janet Dodd who had previously been married to a William Dodd. Her maiden name ie the name she had at birth and the name in which she married William Dodd was Stewart

Your mothers birth certificate should say in mother's name Janet Atkinson formerly Stewart late Dodd(s) (not sure I have the exact wording but that would be the gist of it) which is presumably why you have connected Janet's name as Janet Stewart Dodds

If you brother has the certificate he should be able to confirm this
