The following link gives phone numbers for various cemeteries in the area. You could try ringing them to see if he is in their records.

Not sure if this is helpful but I looked at the Death records for Joseph Atkin for 1973 and there only appears to be one in the London area which is the one you mentioned. With deceased on-line there is also only one of that name buried 16.7.1973 St Pancras Cemetery (Camden) which isn't that far from Hackney. Could they have typed the wrong date as seems a bit of a coincidence. Just a thought.

That looks like a good possibility MBSG. Mistakes are often made. The inscription on my grandmother's headstone (which must have been added at a later date) says she died on 21st June - but she actually died on 4th June and was buried on 6th June.

Mistakes do happen. The burial register for a direct line relative has the 'organisers' name completely wrong. His son is alive to dispute the entry, but won't bother. That'll cause problems for other researchers ;-)

Thanks again
Kath & mbsg for your input, that date could be the right one.
He was knock down by a car a killed.
So there could have been a delay in his body being released for his burial.
Thanks again john.
