Basically, you open up the transcript, then select ‘Make a request’. Assuming you have a FMP sub - Ask us to open a closed record from the drop down list.

Complete the form accurately
Then upload a copy of their death certificate
“The only suitable form of evidence is an official death certificate. If we do not receive this valid proof of death, we will be unable to proceed with a search. (Files supported: .jpg, .png, .gif)”
Finish off with your contact details.
If you don’t have a FMP sub, ie you have paid by credits, you need to use the Ask TNA to open a closed record. TNA charge a non-refundable fee of £27.30 per record
………
They are gradually opening records when they can find a matching GRO record – I’d gone to my father’s household to work out how to do it. He was born 1923 and died about 8 years ago, and his has been opened. It wasn’t me and there’s no one else who’d be that interested. :-S :-D

Hello Shelly.

When you have looked at the 1939 register , scroll down and it will say make a request.
Click onto this and there will be a form to fill in of the persons details and your own.
But you need the death cert. to upload to prove the person is deceased,
Hope thats clear

Well done. Out of interest, and possibly to help others in the same situation...were you able to attach 2 certs, or just the one?

Detective
im not to share i click browse to find the cert
then lowed it up i then click browse agen and lowed her first marriage cert
then dun the same for her second marriage cert

but then when you rub mouse over the browser it only shows the last thing you
lowed up so just in case i then lowed the death cert again

after that i just added all the info in the thingy box were you tell them info to help them find the 1939 record

trouble is with my nan she was born 1892 and there is no birth cert to be fant
and daughter at the time of nans death gave her maiden name as baker and not barber its all very confusing if you have not dun the research and dont have the all the certs to comfourm

and what eals don't help as her mother had her out of wedlock
and did not marry nans father

the only resion i want to see the 1939 census is to see what she had down for her date of birth as on her death cert daughter has put down 13 feb 1892
and if date of birth is different it may then help me to find a birth cert
as her mum was clever with my nans sister birth cert she was also born out of wedlock and nan nether married her father ether

i just hope they can open the record for me
if not i think then the only thing i can do is phone then and explain
ever think

So basically it will only allow you to upload the one certificate?? As long as you gave them enough information to correctly identify the entry, I'm sure you'll be fine. If they don't quite understand what you meant, they *might* come back to you for clarification.

Bearing in mind that quite a few informers for deaths got the dob wrong, they must have come across similar problems.

How does it tie in with the birth GRO index? They may have continued with a previous fiction on the 1939 Register, or the informant got the year wrong when registering her death.

EDIT - you said you don't have birth certificate. Try looking in the previous year,

Checking back on 'opened' twigs on the 1939 register, there are several whose dates are 'out' either by a year or a couple of days from the death index.
My Dad got his mum's yob wrong when he registered the death. It happens.
