Thanks.
The Martha that Malyon mentions is not the Martha I am looking for.
Martha ALLEN - (my greatgrandmother) moved to Australia and married in Australia IN 1865 to John TELFER.
She did have four children all born in Australia, Elizabeth TELFER, James TELFER, Susan TELFER and Martha TELFER.
Martha TELFER (nee ALLEN) died in Australia in 1876.

Mallon, if the Martha that Julie is looking for was born c1842 that can't be her daughter born 1848.

Civil registration in Ireland didn't begin until 1864 so I think if the children weren't baptised you may not find any record.

Hi,
I am trying to trace the birth record of my great grandmother, Martha ALLEN, who was born in County Donegal about 1842. The family was living in Glenmaquin, County Donegal. Her father was William ALLEN.
I have not been able to find a record of the family births on any web based records. I have had the Genealogy Research Centre in Rathmelton search their records - they do not have a record of Martha's birth or that of any of her siblings, although do have some records relating to Martha's brother, William, who stayed in Ireland. The First Ray Church at Manorcunningham and the Convoy church records also have some information that relates to the family (marriages), but not the birth/baptism records.
I would appreciate any suggestions as to where to look for Martha's birth/baptism. I think that they would be Presbyterian records as all info I have found has been from Presbyterian records. Glenmaquin appears not to have a church.
Any clues would be very helpful as I am going to Ireland soon so would be able to visit towns, villages, churches where there might be some records.
Thanks
Julie Templer.
Martha's siblings (to my knowledge) were:
Nancy ALLEN born about 1826 - she married in Ireland 1846 and migrated to New Zealand.
Eliza ALLEN born about 1830 - she married in Ireland in 1854 and migrated to Australia
Susan ALLEN born about 1835 - she migrated to Australia and married there.
William ALLEN born about 1835 - he married in Ireland 1866 and stayed in Ireland - had 8 children.
Rebecca ALLEN born about 1837 - she migrated to Australia - did not marry.
Margaret ALLEN born about 1844 - she migrated to Australia and married there.
I believe that there were 2 others in the family John ALLEN and Annie ALLEN - although I don't have any other information on them.
