Sorry..I got called away yesterday........
Thank you both for your hard work and thoughts.
Thank you safc for the listing for 40 Exmouth Street. I know so little about London areas....
When I previously searched I too was drawn to the Thomas in 1871 who was transcribed as MARE.....In 1861 I think the same family are MAYER, but the wife of Thomas ( snr. ) has different names, so I wasn't sure, plus 17 years old Thomas of 1871 census would suddenly have to gain a few years in the months before his marriage !
I will delve a bit more.........

The image is on Ancestry. In case it helps, one of the witnesses is Elizabeth Sinclair. The other Ethel Price could have been a proffessional witness as she'd signed one the next day.
For our benefit as sometimes records get linked Mary Ann Elizabeth Belchamber Estimated Birth Year: abt 1850 Age: 21 Spouse: Thomas Mayer Spouse Age: 21 Record Type: Marriage Event Date: 17 Jul 1871 Parish: St Dunstan and All Saints, Stepney Borough: Tower Hamlets Father Name: John Belchamber Spouse Father: Thomas Mayer Register Type: Parish Register

Is it possible to search 1871 census by address?
I'm trying to help a friend, who has a marriage certificate for Stepney in summer of 1871. Thomas MAYER married Mary Ann Elizabeth BELCHAMBER. Both are shown as 21.
We are OK with Mary's past and later details, but would like to find out more about Thomas, a boilermaker( father Thomas, also a boilermaker ) The groom's address at marriage was 40 Exmouth Street, ...presumably Stepney.
By 1876 Mary remarried, declaring herself a widow, so we have no firm information about which is the correct Thomas, as my friend hasn't found a death of a suitably aged person, between 1871 and 1876.
Any help would be great please.
