Hello Everyone,

I wondered if someone could help me or at least point me in the right direction.

I am based in Sydney, Australia and do not speak Finnish.

I am trying to do some family research for my grandson who has a paternal Finnish Great Grandfather.

His name was Jarl Helmer Koskinen (b 24/8/1922 Helsinki d 29/9/1991 Helsinki) His wife
was Irja Annikki Vahanen (b 25/2/1923 Sortavala Russia d 27/7/2008 Espoo Finland ) Jarl's parents were Arvo Johannes Koskinen and Meri Langholm.

My grandson's maternal Great Grandfather was Viijo Koistinen 29/1/1921-19/2/1969.

That is as much as I know and obviously if I can go further back I would be very pleased ( and hopefully my grandson will be in years to come!)

If you don't know any living relatives in Finland, whom to ask, you need to contact Tammela parish for details of his parents.
Their email is: tammelan.seurakunta[AT]evl.fi (from Tammela parish web page (http://www.tammelanseurakunta.net/DowebEasyCMS/?Page=Yhteystiedot))
It would not take many minutes for them to check his parents' names, birth dates and places. Practices vary, but you may get that information free of charge. If not, then you may as well ask for complete details of the family (possible siblings, death dates or moving out details). If the rates have not changed recently, the fee is €33/hour with some minimum charge.
Anyway, after getting parent's details, you may be able to continue with online data. As to Tammela, church records are available up to 1909 (births and deaths to 1910) for members of FFHA (http://www.sukuhistoria.fi/sshy/index_eng.htm).
You may then ask us at Finlander Forum, if reading the records appears to be difficult, as it may for any beginners...

I did not follow up on my post on Finlander Forum in 2014 because I discovered my information was wrong.and the person mentioned was not the blood great grandfather of my grandson.
