I can't manage to find my great uncles death certificate born 1897 Sydney Clarence Fairservice
know to me as Uncle Claude I have used every permutation of his name with no results. To make a guess it is around 1956.
Does anyone have any advice

Thank you all so much for your help. I am still slightly confused, some of what you have sent to me I have discovered. Always believing Uncle Claude was single. I can only believe that Uncle Claude was separated form his wife when he lived upstairs in grandmothers house, I was almost certain that I remember him, but if he did died in 1950 that is the year I was born.

Height c 5ft 5in, light brown hair, blue eyes, fair complexion.

Apparently he committed some sort of Royal Navy offence in 1915, for which he spent 7 days" in the cells". This was mentioned in the reference (or "character") they gave him when he left the RN in 1919, in spite of the fact that he seems to have been otherwise of good character. He applied to have the reference changed, to omit mention of the offence, and they refused.

Chances are you're thinking of this great uncle and not Sidney:

Note the middle name. I don't see a marriage for him and he died in 1965.
