On Family Search site there is an " Intended marriage " between Bradley Pass, and Farmer Massey - which i take to be Frances Massey. 12 October 1745.

However, it shows she is already a WIDOW, The Bowdon parish register of the marriage a week later 20/10/1745, does not show this, as far as I can tell.

I should like to look at the Bond, for further information, is this possible on line?. Would it give her former name for instance? and do I have to buy the copy bond from the CRO for this information ?

Added: Frances' age is given as 50 (Bradley is age 45 - 'husbandman') years old and she is described as a widow on the actual document.

Just looked at the marriage record and it appears no one on the long list of people have been given a 'status' in terms of spinster/widow and so on

There are several Bradley Pass men!

The first Ii think is born 1700 and marries firstly Mary Whitehead, who dies in 1744, in the following year he marries a widow, ten years older then himself - Francis Massey--who i think you found. as noted above.

His son-- an other Bradley, marries Catherine Massey another widow-- in 1764, when she is 39 and he is 44.

It is this latter Catherine I am interested in. Her first husband Richard Massey dies in 1757, so she has been a widow with at least two infant children for 7 years. Where did she live, and how?

In 1764 the two youngest of her children are apprenticed to Bradly Pass ,and now their stepfather, a Blacksmith of High Legh, for 11 years, through the direction of the overseers of the poor at High Legh.

I presume that somewhere there are copies of the arrangement in the Parish records?
I should be grateful for any information on these procedures in poor relief?

And are these Massey women related?

I believe from previous enquires that a marriage licence or bonds shown on FMP and others,. only contains the first page of the document , the second page is likely to contain details of the couple's home parish ,and their ages.and occupation.

This is certainly true of the couple I bought from the CRO a few years back.

This is really helpful when dealing with names common in an area.
