Divorce information

We are new to this type of research, and are trying to discover when (what year) our grandfather and grandmother were divorced. We have been unable to find this information and need some help please!!!

Assuming England or Wales, this should tell you what you need to know & further avenues to try.
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/divorces/

If their names comes up on the NA search leading to Ancestry, those of us with an Ancestry sub could acccess it for you. Its worth mentioning that any result would be listed with the married surname, with no mention of the wife's maiden or previous surname

do bear in mind.....

The survival rate of divorce case files is:

1858-1927: almost 100%
1928-1937: 80%
After 1937: less than 0.2%

Depending on the 'when', there might have been something reported in the papers.

Very many thanks indeed for pointing us in the right direction,it all seems mysterious
to us at the moment and we find researching ancestors quite difficult,but hope that we will get better at it.

If you want to post any names of family you're researching there are plenty that will look for you and advise of where to look,

Thank you, we have been trying to find relatives and getting used to the site!! Have now totally got cramp in my fingers and will be giving it a rest for a day or so. But it is definitely addictive!!! Off to have a glass of wine now.
