Do bear in mind that many records relate to people who considered themselves European Christians.

As EricaH says, there’s a lot on Familysearch.

Apart from FS. Try http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/index.aspx for Australian records & google the State they appear to have ended up in. Be aware that Australian BMD indexes have tighter privacy closures than the UK.

http://ryersonindex.org/search.php For basic death notice transcripts. The relevant state Ask a Librarian service will send you full entry details on request.

Depends on when for India, if before independence there are a good few records on FMP

Note that there is no unified system of BMD reistration in the UK, and of the 5 countries that were/are the UK have their records in 4 separate locations (England and Wales are combined)..

This model was exported tp the colonies, and Australia's BMD records are now in its 8 states or territories - the model was exported to Canada and the USA too.

Can anybody please let me know the best place to find BMD information for Australia and India as so many ancestors lived/died in these countries.
