I have hit a brick wall. I am looking for a Albert James Smith sometimes known as Albert. On his second marriage cert He married my Great Gran Emily Amelia Groom spinster aged 32 ( I have done this side) on 29 April 1913 Merton Surrey. it states he was a widower aged 40 occ a Gardener, his father was Charles Smith deceased occ Road Inspector. At the time of marriage they were both living in the same address 34 Dorien Road Raynes Park Merton Surrey with Emily's family. I have his death cert which states he died on the 29 Jan 1937 aged 64 at 33 High Path Merton stii listed as a gardener. They had 2 children Frank and Ellen Florence Florence.
I cannot find a birth fo him nor anything about his Father. "Oh these common names"

Hi Kay yes I did write it wrong Albert died at 2 Horsham Road Dorking 29 Jan 1937 aged 64. His home address was listed as 33 High Path Merton Surrey I have his death cert.

I have checked out all your replies Charles is not he father on any of them and no Charles in the name, just in case he was using his middle name

Who are the witnesses on the marriage certificate - may give clues

There's only Mary's reply which could be checked for Father - but think that would be rather difficult, so how do you mean you've checked all the replies and none has Father Charles.

It shows a man in the right area, right age +/- a year or so and right occupation.

Malyon's answer has already been dismissed with wrong Father named on Baptism.

People lied about ages, about parents etc

Postcode for 1911 census 45,Hartfield Cresent Wimbledon SW19 3RZ


Postcode for 34,Dorien Road Merton (address at time of marriage SW20 8EJ distance between the two is 1.27 miles so it is possible that Albert Smith I posted about on 1911 census could be the correct one.

But I still can't find him before with dad Charles.

Hi Greyghost,
I have put several requests on Genes, Ancestry, Rootschat people have been so kind I have checked them all so far and none of them match up.
I have checked in Oxford for a birth on familyseasrch.org and on Ancestry.
I agree with Mary about the 1911 I saved this on ANcestry. Oh for the record this is not my line I am helping my cousin out it is her side.
I have suggested to her that at his second marriage to Emily Amelia he could haave lied about his age as being 40 as Emily was only 32

As there were no penalties before 1875, it may be that his birth simply wasn't registered.
