Looks like my hunch was wrong then :-(
Seems more likely to be the Earsdon William.

This is the same Sarah Howey from the 1841 census that I posted in the 1851 census:-
1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription New Cottages, Winlaton, Gateshead, Durham, England
First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place Sarah Howey Head Widow Female 51 1800 Parish Annuitant Gateshead, Durham, England John Howey Son Unmarried Male 24 1827 Coke Burner Whickham, Durham, England Ann Howey Daughter Unmarried Female 19 1832 At Home Service Whickham, Durham, England Robert Howey Son Unmarried Male 16 1835 Laby In A Brick Manufacty Heworth, Durham, England Transcription Hannah Howey Daughter Unmarried Female 13 1838 Scholar Durham, England Joseph Errington Lodger Unmarried Male 24 1827 Watterman Whickham, Durham, England
As Sarah is a widow and living off the parish, I would think that since she was living in South Shields in the 1841 census and the death I posted in 1838 was in South Shields, I'd be pretty sure that the 1838 death was her husband. They also have a daughter Ann born at the right time.
That death certificate should give William's age, so would be well worth ordering just to be sure one way or another.

The only other marriage that I can see for either of these two Williams is this one:-
First name(s) William Last name Howey Name note - Marriage year 1815 Marriage date 25 Nov 1815 Marriage place Haydon Bridge Spouse's first name(s) Frances Spouse's last name Robson County Northumberland Country England Record set England Marriages 1538-1973 Category Birth, Marriage, Death & Parish Records Subcategory Parish Marriages
However I think this is too early for "your" William, so much more likely to be the William born 1796 and as you are certain that he married Sarah Harper, then I can't see it being any other William apart from the 1802 Haltwhistle birth.

Kath, Thanks again for taking the time to help. I know William was born in the Northumberland area so looking at the records you have just provided it can really only be one of two. 1802 Haltwhistle William or the 1796 Earsdon William. I have not contacted the County Records Office, I wouldn't know where to start. I will keep digging and try to find some contact info for them. I will be away from the PC now for the day as I have to leave for work. Thanks Kath x

You could contact the Northumberland County Record Office and see if they would check the actual image of the marriage (unless you have already done this) and see if the marriage record gives an age for William or if it just says "of full age" or "miror" which he would be if he married in 1821. Unless he lied about his age then he should really have needed his parent's permission to marry.

On the parish baptisms on Findmypast these are the only baptisms for the name William Howey in 1802 +/- 10 years and the Haltwhistle baptism is the only one near to 1802:-
Howey William 1796 — 1796 Northumberland And Durham Baptisms Northumberland, England View transcript. Howey William 1796 — 1796 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Earsdon by North Shields, Northumberland, England View transcript. Howey William 1798 — 1798 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Putney, London, England View transcript. Howey William 1802 — 1802 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Haltwhistle, Northumberland, England You previously viewed this record. Howey William 1809 — 1809 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Wooler, Northumberland, England View transcript. Howey William 1810 — 1811 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 St Dunstan-In-The-West, London, England View transcript. Howey William — — 1793 Somerset Baptism Index Stogumber, Somerset, England View transcript. Howey William — — 1797 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Rothbury, Northumberland, England View transcript. Howey William — — 1809 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Wooler, Northumberland, England
The death certificate of William from 1838 might give a clue if the informant is a family member or if it gives his occupation.
Personally I think this 1802 baptism is your most likely.

Kath. Thank you for the reply's. I have a copy of the documents that you point to but, as C1802 for Williams birth year is only a guess I can not be sure that this is the same person. I have access to two members tree's that include the William from Hallwhistle, his Siblings and Parents. I would love it to be the same person but I'm lost on proving it?. The only definite info I have on my William is his marriage to Sarah Harper and their Daughter Ann. William is my great x3 Grandfather

Could William ans Sarah have moved around the north east? There is this family on the 1841 census but without William:-
1841 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription Thames Street, Lower Philipp Yard, Jarrow, South Shields, Durham, England
Sarah Howey Female 40 1801 Durham, England John Howey Male 15 1826 Durham, England Elizabeth Howey Female 12 1829 Durham, England Ann Howey Female 9 1832 Durham, England Robert Howey Male 7 1834 Durham, England Hannah Howey Female 4 1837 Durham, England
These baptisms seem to match the children above and the individual records show the father's name is William:-
Howey Ann — — 1831 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Whickham, Durham, England
Howey Eleanor 1824 — 1824 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Whickham, Durham, England
Howey Elizabeth 1828 — 1828 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Whickham, Durham, England
Howey John 1826 — 1826 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Whickham, Durham, England
Howey Robert Haugh — — 1834 England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975 Whickham, Durham, England
This looks like it could be William's death:-
First name(s) William Last name Howey Gender Male Birth day - Birth month - Birth year - Age - Death quarter 2 Death year 1838 District South Shields County Durham Volume XXIV Page 125

If the above birth happens to be the right one then this is likely to be his parent's marriage:-

Welcome to the boards David.
Most helpers look at all the boards so it doesn't really matter where you post, although this would probably be best on "Find Ancestors".
Having said that there is this parish baptism on Findmypast at around the date you give for William:-
First name(s) William Last name Howey Gender Male Birth year 1802 Birth place - Baptism year 1802 Baptism date 13 Feb 1802 Place Haltwhistle County Northumberland Country England Father's first name(s) Thos. Father's last name Howey Mother's first name(s) Elizth. Mother's last name Coulson Record set England Births & Baptisms 1538-1975

Hello, this is my first post so I don't really know if I'm even in the right place but I'm looking for some help from a more experienced researcher. I have traced a branch of my family back to a William Howey c1802, he lived in the Northumberland area. He married a Sarah Harper 25th April 1821 in All Saints Church, Newcastle upon Tyne. I know they had a Daughter Ann Howey c1831. Ann married Cuthbert Huntley b1828. I have found a few William Howey's in that area and at that time but I have no idea how to be sure that I have the right person, I would like to find Williams siblings and especially his parents. Is there any experienced researcher who could possibly help me to achieve this? Thanks in advance. Regards Dave
