To get a Glasgow Libraries card and PIN (for access to some of the above records):

https://tinyurl.com/yyp5rsq9

You can apply online, but you do have to take ID to a Glasgow library in order to actually get your card, so maybe no use to you.

I've contacted them to ask if one has to be a Glasgow resident in order to join, as I would like to see the online records which are only accessible with card and PIN, but I don't live in the Glasgow area.
Awaiting a reply.

(But maybe someone on here knows the answer?)

Thanks for that information ArgyllGran,
Would be interesting to know the outcome if that's ok.

I live in London so unless I go back home to Glasgow for a visit it is costing me quite a bit on credits on Scotlandspeople.

I always make a point of visiting the Mitchell when i go home , I think if I lived in Glasgow I would be there almost every day, I love the place.

Disappointing reply from Mitchell Library today:

"Thank you for your email.
You can view what material is held by the Mitchell Library and other Glasgow Libraries by simply performing a catalogue search and you don’t require membership to do this. You can take out Temporary Membership by joining online using the link https://libcat.csglasgow.org/web/arena/join-the-library however this level of membership lasts for only 28 days and provides very limited access to the website.
Due to publisher licensing restrictions, Full Membership is required for wider access to a whole range of items e.g. e-books, family history websites, etc. however this level of membership is only available to Glasgow residents who collect their library card and PIN from their Glasgow library after showing name and address identification."

Jean -
if you still have family in Glasgow, perhaps one of them could join, and lend you their membership details ??

Thanks for that ArgyllGran,

I do have distant family still in Glasgow but all pretty old now I'm afraid but I will get in touch with them and see .

Might make a trip to Glasgow towards the end of the year and spend a day at the Mitchell hopefully.

I have sent am e.mail to Woody via genes , but no reply yet.
Just a shame that the website she mentioned a few years ago is not available .
