How easy would it be to find someone that was born between 1976-1978 that stayed with the birth mother . She then met man and not sure if they married . But he adopted her in 1984-1986 . The father of the girl born signed the adoption papers so we know this is true but he has since passed away and his son would like to try find his half sister

So girl born stayed with mum possibly married but her partner adopted her

Many thanks
And also was told they since moved to Leeds but she was born in Scunthorpe
I do have the mothers name and child born x x

Sounds to me like a job for trained professionals.

Too much potential for upset, otherwise

Have you actually done any research?

Signed papers dosent mean child stayed with the natural mother,,,but signed as a lawful requirement in many cases.

If you know the name of the mother then a search for a possble marriage would be a first step,------but then any approach should be done with guidence as any iunwanted interference may not be welcomed and as its not known whats going on in anyones life at that time could throw all sorts of problems,,,,,,plus if the chid knows her background she if courious will take their own steps as and when its right for them.

The half-brother can sign up to the Adoption Contact Register:

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

Then if the half-sister should also happen to be looking for blood relatives (which includes half blood relatives), and also signs up, they may be put in touch with each other.

It's a long shot, but worth a try.

I'm not certain that a 'mother's own' adoption is recorded on the register.

Just something to bear in mind

The half brother could always join this site with the late father name in his tree.
