I have been searching the MPRB, in Ancoats for a James Booth.
I have him at 10 Smith Street ,Ancoats in the Slaters Trade Directory. advertized as a Spinner
He appears at this address in the Poor Rate books =

1854 William Booth 6 Smith St
1858 Jas Booth 10 Smith St
1859 James Booth 10 Smith St
1860 James Booth 10 Smith St
1861 James Booth 10 Smith St
1862 John Booth 10 Smith St + Thomas Booth 7
Smith St
1863 James Booth 10 Smith St
I cannot find him on any census although there are several James Booth names listed on the MPRM from 1806 -1892.
a couple at Brownsfield Mill ,Ancoats, the owners being Leech & others.
in 1863 there is also a James Booth listed at 260 Great Ancoats Street- so not an uncommon name.

But did a Business pay the PR, and did people live at a Mill?

He may have always been on the night shift, therefore he wouldn’t be on the census.
