Is there a 'cheap' way of ascertaining a death record?
I am looking for the burial of an Ann Booth, born c 1802-
Last recorded in 1841 census at Mottram In Longdendale.
and I suppose in the AUL registers.
Wife of Daniel Booth, shoemaker of Chapel Street. with 7 children.
Neither parents are present on the 1851 census, and the 8 children dispersed - some living with each other in a couple of establishments.
There are at least 9 x Ann Booths who died in this period , in the Ashton under Lyne records. I want to buy the death certificate copy, but which one? They range from page 28- 148 it seems

Thank you for any tips...

I assume the period you mean is 1841-51?

On what site are you finding those 9 deaths?

These are the only female Booth deaths in Ashton showing on the free GRO site:
None of them seem to have been born in 1802.
The nearest would be Hannah aged 41.

Is this likely to be Daniel's death? RD as per 1841 census and would make him born 1802/3. 1841 census has him as 35 so 35-39 and born 1801/2 - 1806

Name: Age at Death (in years):
BOOTH, DANIEL 46
GRO Reference: 1849 M Quarter in ASHTON UNDER LYNE Volume 20 Page 77

Might help determine a year if his or Ann's burial or death record says widow/er or not

The GRO now offer a PDF copy of birth and death certs. They don't do marriage ones yet. They cost 7 pounds as opposed to 11 pounds for the other sort. They are an exact copy of the certs but can't be used for legal purposes which is fine if you just want them for family history. You can save and download them.

2 x Hannah Booth burials at Mottram in Longendale -

18.6.1845 and 7.4.1846

and 1 x Mary Ann

3.3.1842

All possibly the wrong age if comparing to available records on the GRO site

They are transcripts only on find My Past, so no further information other than name, date and place.

Records Office may be able to help with a look up

Have you also looked on Family Search Collections, England Lancashire or Cheshire.. Parish Registers, or Cemetery Records

You'd be surprised what you'll find on those parish registers, even if you do have to search them page by page because they're not indexed!

Thank you all for your replies.

Daniel was baptised on 4 April 1802 at Mottram.
He married Ann Kinder at M/c in October 1825.

Daniel was a non conformists.

I had presumed since they are shown with their children on the 1841 census at Chapel Street - Mottram in Longdendale, but not on the 1851 census that they had both died in that time frame.

The children are with their married sister Mary Pennington or the brother Allan Booth in 1851, with the exception of Jane - who I think is a house servant elsewhere.

There are plenty of possibles on the death index, (without ages). So difficult to be sure which ones are correct..

What I cannot find is their graves.

Did non conformists have their own grave yards at this period- are there registers for those places?-

No matter what the religious persuasion, the deaths would have been registered with the civil authorities

And if you use the GRO site, as detailed above, AGES are recorded, as indeed they are on LancsBMD, so there's no reason not to know age at death

Are you saying that you haven't checked whether Daniel and Ann were alive in 1851 and later?

I noticed that the Family Search Collections list had records for Non-conformist burials in both Cheshire and Lancashire, although I did not open the records to check the coverage.
