Two of my OH grandparents (one on each side) were killed in road accidents in the 1920s and I located the reports of the accidents in the local papers archives.

I've had a lot of success over the years with newspapers. A good article contains a lot of useful information. My 3x great grandfather died in Dublin in 1869, his death wasn't registered by the family. I found his obituary in the local paper and it told me where, he died, cause of death, who was with him, where he worked, when and where the funeral was. Great.

Thankyou for your suggestions. I think I will order the death cert so will see exactly the cause and where the death was registered. At least I will have the facts to go on.
Thats the trouble with " family stories,", they do have elements of truth but not always quite the whole truth!

If the story is true then the death certificate should indicate where the accident happened. However, if they were taken to hospital before the death was confirmed the certificate would show the place of death as the hospital but would possibly give the accident as the cause of death.

Rather than ‘village’ newspapers you should be looking for local papers covering a wider area than just a village. Look for local evening papers as well.

Where was the death registered?

As for exact cause of death, that will be on the death cert

Can anyone tell me if a person died in 1948, is it possible to find the death in a local newspaper?. I have a relative who was knocked down by a bus and killed instantly as the family story goes.
Maybe if i order the death cert as i do have the details from searching the records, it may give me the correct area?

Are all newspapers for villages etc from years ago available to look at online?

Any suggestions?
i just want to find out exactly what happened to them and exact cause of death as we all know how stories passed down are not always accurate!
